72-Year-Old Father Waits at Bus Stop Every Night So Daughter Never Walks Home Alone

Félix Cárdenas waits at the same bus stop every single night for his 22-year-old daughter to come home from work.

The 72-year-old father from Ñemby, Paraguay has maintained this routine since 2019.

Belén Cárdenas arrives home between 8:30 and 9:00 pm, and her father is always there waiting.

When she posted a photo of her father on social media in February 2022, it received almost 25,000 likes.

A Father's Unwavering Commitment

Belén once suggested that her father didn't need to wait for her every night.

His response revealed why he continues: "He gets more stressed if I don't let him wait there, so I try to arrive as soon as possible."

The commitment spans five years without interruption.

The Context Behind the Routine

Canadian government guidance flags higher crime rates in Ñemby, Paraguay, where the Cárdenas family lives.

Paraguay's Ministry of Women reported 31 femicides and 52 attempted femicides in 2024.

Amnesty International describes "massive violence against women, children and adolescents" in Paraguay.

A Daughter's Gratitude

Belén expressed her appreciation: "I already thank my dad for everything he has done for me, for my siblings, and even more for my son. He has always been and continues to be an excellent father and grandfather."

Every night at 8:30 pm, Félix Cárdenas takes his position at the bus stop, ensuring his daughter never walks the dark streets alone.
