Creator Programme Terms

Last updated: November 1, 2026

These Creator Programme Terms (the “Creator Terms”) apply if you apply to, or take part in, the Horrifying Humanity Creator Programme as a creator partner (an “Influencer”). They add to our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, which also apply. If these Creator Terms conflict with the Terms of Use about the Creator Programme, these Creator Terms apply.

Creator partners bring their communities to the Horrifying Humanity app to vote on which injustices get investigated and where the Justice Fund's money goes. Their share of the memberships and merch sales they bring in is paid to fund their research and reporting, so we only accept creators whose work serves the same purpose as ours.

Applying and the Campaign

Anyone with an account who is at least 18 years old can apply, describing the research and reporting they do. We review every application against our purpose and may approve or decline it at our discretion. Approval starts a campaign: you have 14 days to receive at least 100 votes from members on your vote page. Any member may vote once, including free (Witness) members.

  • If you reach 100 votes in time, you become an Influencer. Your vote stays open until the 14 days end, and higher totals earn campaign badges.
  • If you do not reach 100 votes in time, the campaign ends and you may apply again.
  • Votes must be genuine. You must not buy votes, offer anything of value for votes, use fake or duplicate accounts, bots, or automation, or ask others to. We may remove votes or end a campaign we believe was manipulated.
  • We may also remove any vote, end any campaign early, or undo an Influencer promotion that depended on removed votes, at any time and for any other reason at our discretion. Where removing votes takes a campaign below 100, the corrected total stands.

Membership Commission

Members can name up to three creators they support. Each month a paid member stays, the creators they support share a commission of up to 40% of that member's membership fee, split evenly between them (40% for one creator, 20% each for two, about 13.3% each for three). Members who join through your link name you automatically, and can change who they support at any time. Commission is paid to fund your research and reporting. If your work stops serving the purpose of the Justice Fund, we may end your participation under these Creator Terms.

Commission is calculated on the membership fees we actually receive, after taxes, refunds, chargebacks, processing fees, and app store fees. No commission is earned on free memberships, on fees that are refunded or charged back, or on your own membership.

Merch Earnings

When someone buys merch through your link, you earn 10% of that order's merchandise total, after member discounts and before shipping and taxes. Nothing is earned on orders that are cancelled, refunded, or charged back, or on your own orders. Merch earnings are paid with your other earnings, under the same hold and payout rules.

Keeping Influencer Status

To keep Influencer status, you need a minimum number of active supporters: members who support you and have an active paid membership. The minimum is currently 25 and may change.

  • We warn you in the App when your active supporters are getting close to the minimum.
  • If you fall below it, you have a grace period (currently 30 days) to get back to the minimum.
  • If you are still below it when the grace period ends, your Influencer status and its perks are paused, including earnings, until you are back at the minimum. Your link keeps working, and your status is restored automatically once you reach it.
  • Earnings you made before a pause are still paid under these Creator Terms.

Articles

You may submit articles for publication in the Horrifying Humanity app. We review every article and may edit, decline, or remove it, including to meet our standards, these Creator Terms, or the law. Published articles show your name and handle. Creator articles are not published on horrifyinghumanity.com, which carries Horrifying Humanity's own reporting.

Articles do not earn per visit. Readers can choose to support you from your article, and members who do count as your supporters under the commission terms above.

You must have the rights to everything you submit. You keep ownership of your posts and give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to publish, display, edit, promote, and archive them in connection with the Site and our work, which continues for published posts after you leave the Programme.

You are responsible for what you publish. Your articles must be accurate, based on facts you can support, and lawful, including laws on defamation, privacy, copyright, and court orders or publication bans. If we ask you to correct or remove an article, you must do so promptly.

Creator articles are your own work and views. Publishing them does not mean we endorse them. You agree to indemnify us against claims, losses, and costs, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your articles or other content you provide.

Rates and Changes

We may change commission rates, the campaign rules, or these Creator Terms. We will give you at least 30 days' notice of changes that reduce your earnings, by email or in the App. Changes apply to earnings from after they take effect.

Payouts and Taxes

  • New earnings are pending for 30 days, to allow for refunds and chargebacks, and then become available.
  • Available earnings are paid automatically on the 1st of each month once they reach the minimum payout (currently $25 USD), or you can claim them at any time once they reach the minimum.
  • Payouts are made in US dollars through the payout method you choose (such as Stripe, PayPal, or Wise). You must keep your payout details accurate; we are not responsible for payments sent to details you gave us.
  • Before your first payout you must provide the tax information we or our payout providers require (for example, a W-9 or W-8BEN). We may withhold tax where the law requires.
  • You are responsible for your own taxes on what you earn.
  • We may hold or reverse earnings connected to fraud, chargebacks, refunds, manipulated votes, or a breach of these Creator Terms.

We do not guarantee any level of earnings. Figures shown in the App, such as estimates or past earnings, are not promises of future earnings.

If we cannot pay you for 12 months after reasonable attempts because your payout details are missing or invalid, we may treat the earnings as unclaimed property as the law allows.

Disclosure and Conduct

Whenever you promote the Justice Fund or share your link, you must clearly disclose that you earn from it (for example, “#ad” or “I earn a commission”), as required by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, the Competition Bureau of Canada, and similar rules elsewhere, and by the platforms you post on.

You must not:

  • Make false or misleading claims about memberships, the Justice Fund, cases, outcomes, or earnings;
  • Promise that any case, cause, or vote will have a particular result;
  • Spam, buy ads on our brand name, or impersonate the Justice Fund, Horrifying Humanity, or their teams;
  • Offer money or rewards for memberships, votes, or support beyond what the Programme provides; or
  • Break our Community Rules or the law.

You may use our name and logo only to identify yourself as a creator partner and to promote the Site, following any brand guidance we give you.

Supporter information. You can see some information about your supporters, such as their display names and membership tiers. Use it only to take part in the Programme. You must not contact supporters outside the App because of what you see there, share their information, or use it for any other purpose.

Conduct elsewhere. If your public conduct, on or off the Site, seriously harms the community, the people in our stories, or our reputation, we may suspend or end your participation.

Our Relationship and Ending Participation

You take part as an independent creator, not as an employee, agent, or partner of Horrifying Humanity, and you cannot make commitments on our behalf.

You may leave the Programme at any time by contacting us. We may suspend or end your participation at any time, including for a breach of these Creator Terms. When participation ends, earnings that are available and properly earned are paid out at the next payout date, except earnings connected to fraud or a breach, which are forfeited.

We may change, pause, or end the Creator Programme as a whole. We will give you at least 30 days' notice where we can, and earnings properly earned before it ends are paid under these Creator Terms.

To the extent permitted by law, our total liability to you relating to the Creator Programme is limited to the earnings properly owed to you and not yet paid.
