Pregnant Mother Shot Paroled Burglar in Head During Home Invasion
A pregnant mother alone with her baby shot a paroled burglar in the head after hiding in a closet — she had never fired a gun before

A pregnant woman with no firearms experience shot and k*lled an armed intruder in her Joliet home after retreating to a bedroom closet with her baby.
The intruder was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head.
Police responded to the home invasion on August 15, 2025, around 10:28 p.m. in the 7000 block of Hadrian Drive.
The woman took her baby and hid in a second-floor bedroom closet when she heard the break-in.
The Intruder's Criminal History
Hurd was wearing gloves and armed with a screwdriver when he broke in.
He had been convicted of burglaries in 2022 in Tinley Park and 2023 in Frankfort, according to Will County court records.
Fatal Encounter
The woman fired a single shot that struck Hurd in the head.
Hurd was pronounced dead from the gunshot wound at 3:05 a.m. Saturday.
Neighbors reported hearing the gunshot and shared doorbell camera footage showing police arriving at the scene.
Legal Outcome
The woman is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
No charges have been announced against her.
In Illinois, homeowners have the legal right to use deadly force if they reasonably believe it's necessary to prevent a forcible felony such as home invasion.
Hurd had served four years in prison for two burglary convictions that occurred just 10 days apart in March 2022 before his February parole release.
