Son Who Witnessed Mother's Murder at Age 8 Kills Her Attacker 11 Years Later

An 8-year-old boy watched a man stab his mother 20 times during a family barbecue, then spent 11 years waiting for the chance to kill him back.

On March 31, 2026, Marcos Antônio da Silva Neto found Rafael Garcia Pedroso outside a health center in Frutal, Brazil, and shot him five times in the back.

The Original Murder

On July 3, 2016, Rafael Garcia Pedroso stabbed Glauciane Cipriano to death while her three children watched.

The murder was classified as femicide motivated by jealousy, committed with extreme cruelty in a context of domestic violence.

Marcos and his siblings, ages 8, 7, and 2, were raised by their maternal grandmother, a domestic worker in a peripheral neighborhood of Frutal.

One day before the killing, Rafael rode his motorcycle past Marcos's house, circled the block, and returned with his visor lifted, looking directly at Marcos and his sister at the door.

The next day, Marcos found Rafael waiting for his wife outside a health center and shot him five times in the back, then escaped on a motorcycle.

After the Killing

Marcos's lawyer stated the young man intended to surrender and never truly tried to escape, expressing clear intention to confess and cooperate with justice.

During questioning, when shown a photo of his mother Glauciane Cipriano, Marcos broke down in tears, trembled, and asked for a hug.

He told his lawyers: "I saw each stab, my mother fell covered in blood and the last things she told me were, 'son give me a hug.'"
